A public forum on a study of Dauphin Island's shoreline will be held today at 3 p.m. at the Isle
Dauphine Club on the island.
The study is part of a 2006 settlement agreement of a federal lawsuit filed by Dauphin Island
Property Owners Association, who claimed that the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' dredging
practices of the Mobile Bay Ship Channel caused the island's shoreline to erode.
The study, released in March, found that the corps' dredging practices had "no measurable
negative impacts" on the island.
Mark Byrnes, a Massachusetts-based coastal engineer who authored the study, will present his
findings, a corps spokesman said. The presentation will be followed by a question and answer session, officials said.
